(Every day at training camp, we'll recap the day with a final blog post.)
Top storyline: The Patriots were in full pads for the third straight day as players continued the process of acclimating to contact. Toward the end of practice, running back Stevan Ridley seemed to take exception to a hit delivered by cornerback Kyle Arrington, and there was a brief dust-up. Both players spoke about it after practice.
Offense rebounds: After a tough practice Monday night that saw quarterback Tom Brady throwing a pick-six to cornerback Aqib Talib and No. 2 signal-caller Ryan Mallett ovethrowing his intended target and being intercepted by rookie safety Duron Harmon, the offense was sharper this time. It was noted that this practice would reveal, in some form, the resilience of the unit. Rookie free agent Kenbrell Thompkins, in particular, had a strong bounce-back showing.
Bolden, Dobson among those not present: Second-year running back Brandon Bolden missed his second straight practice, while rookie receiver Aaron Dobson wasn't on the field after building early momentum in camp. Dobson came out to watch the practice about halfway through the session; in his absence, Josh Boyce and Thompkins took the most repetitions. At running back, Ridley and LeGarrette Blount were the primary ball-carriers, and at one point, there was a mix-up when Blount went in one direction and Brady the other.
"SportsCenter" on site: ESPN's "training days" series visited Gillette Stadium, with host Hannah Storm working alongside Tedy Bruschi. Owner Robert Kraft spent time on the set. Also, Sal Paolantonio was in town for ESPN and was seen speaking with coach Bill Belichick at one point.
Rookie report: Free-agent tight end Zach Sudfeld drew the ire of Brady at one point for a dropped pass, but later made a super catch in the end zone that had Brady excited. ... Defensive lineman Joe Vellano caught our attention for a second straight day with his short-area quickness.
Quote of note: "It's all love, you know. Whatever happens on the field stays on the field. It's an emotional game, emotional people. It's all love, though, at the end of the day." -- Kyle Arrington, on his dust-up with Stevan Ridley
Summing it up: The Patriots won't practice Wednesday, and this marked the fifth practice of camp. A heavy focus was placed on red-zone passing. The team's training camp schedule is set through Saturday, with afternoon practices on Thursday and Friday, then a morning session on Saturday.
