Rookie CB Ryan getting his work in

August, 19, 2013
The preseason is an important time for coaches to evaluate young players on the roster, and one name stands atop the list for the Patriots through two preseason games: Cornerback Logan Ryan.

The third-round draft choice from Rutgers has played a team-high 147 defensive snaps. Add in 16 special-teams snaps and that's about as heavy of a workload as one could get at this point.

Ryan, the 83rd overall pick in the draft, has been called upon for more work with Alfonzo Dennard and Ras-I Dowling yet to play this preseason. He's shown some flexibility to line up both outside and in the slot.

A look a few other young players who have had a heavy workload through two games:

S Duron Harmon -- 133
DE Michael Buchanan -- 107
LB Steve Beauharnais -- 94
LB Jamie Collins -- 81
WR Aaron Dobson -- 81
WR Kenbrell Thompkins -- 77
DE Marcus Benard -- 76
WR Josh Boyce -- 72
TE Zach Sudfeld -- 65
DE Jake Bequette -- 63
