Running back Stevan Ridley was benched after his second-quarter fumble in the season opener, but it doesn't sound like Ridley will be kept on the sideline for the team's home opener against the Jets on Thursday night.
During his weekly interview on sports radio WEEI this week, coach Bill Belichick said he spoke directly with Ridley and "There's no problem there."
He also said: "Stevan’s a good player. I thought he ran hard. We have a long way to go. We’re going to need him. I’m sure he’ll contribute a lot for us this year.”
The injury situation at running back is also a factor to consider in Ridley's potential playing time.
Shane Vereen (wrist) is out, while Brandon Bolden (knee) and Leon Washington (thigh) didn't play in the season-opening win over the Bills (they will probably be listed as questionable for Thursday night).
That leaves just Ridley and LeGarrette Blount as the team's healthy running backs.
