Former Patriots linebacker Willie McGinest will serve as the team's honorary captain for the AFC Championship Game, the club announced Thursday.

The choice coincides with the upcoming 20-year anniversary of Robert Kraft purchasing the franchise and McGinest was the first draft pick made in his tenure (No. 4 overall, 1994).

McGinest, who was a key member of Super Bowl championship teams in 2001, 2003 and 2004, will accompany the team's captains to midfield for the opening toss. He played 11 of his 15 NFL seasons for New England and now serves as an analyst for NFL Network.
