Danny Aiken and the RFA market

The future of some New England Patriots top free agents has been dissected and analyzed in recent weeks, but let's now shine a spotlight on the lesser-discussed area of restricted free agency.

The Patriots have one restricted free agent -- long snapper Danny Aiken.

The team now must decide whether it will tender Aiken a contract. If Aiken is not tendered a contract, he would become an unrestricted free agent.

The tender levels are as follows:

Right of first refusal -- $1.43 million

Second-rounder -- $2.18 million

First-rounder -- $3.11 million

QUICK-HIT THOUGHTS: Aiken earned a base salary of $550,000 in 2013, so a "right of first refusal" tender would almost triple his earnings. This leads us to believe the Patriots are more likely to not tender Aiken, making him a free agent, with the team working to bring him back at a potential reduced rate.
