In a statistic that is going to be hard for any team to match, the New England Patriots made their 10th transaction at the tight end position since Aug. 10 when they waived undrafted Justin Jones on Monday.
Jones, of East Carolina, accounts for three of those moves -- he was waived Aug. 10, re-signed Aug. 18, and now has been waived again.
The Patriots have just three tight ends on the roster, Rob Gronkowski, Michael Hoomanawanui and Steve Maneri. Fullbacks James Develin and undrafted rookie Taylor McCuller have also been assuming some tight-end type responsibilities.
The Patriots' roster is at 83 players. The team must trim to 75 by 4 p.m. Tuesday, and one of those moves will almost certainly be moving rookie running back Tyler Gaffney to injured reserve.
