ESPN.com NFL reporter Mike Sando polled 30 insiders from around the league to compile a 1-32 ranking of head coaches. The results are now posted, and they reflect well on Bill Belichick and owner Robert Kraft.
Belichick received "tier-1" votes from 28 of the 30 insiders. No coach had better results.
Meanwhile, the coach preceding Belichick in New England -- Seattle's Pete Carroll -- was next on the list. Guess we can say that Kraft knows how to pick his coaches.
In putting together the 1-32 list, Sando provides insight as to how Belichick is perceived by league insiders, including how some hold him accountable for his assistants failing to have success when they depart as head coaches.
On the positive side, one league insider says, "He is a maniacal guy when it comes to preparing his team. They get together, and they meet about the team. The offense should know how the defense is played, the defense should know how the offense is played and it is that notion that builds greatness."
