FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- The New England Patriots haven't played a game yet, but starting quarterback Tom Brady is already banged-up.

Brady has a calf injury and did not practice Thursday. A source indicated that Brady will be ready to go for Sunday's season opener against the Dolphins.

Still, it's obviously notable that Brady, who loves to practice, wasn't on the field Thursday. Rookie quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo led the practice, with practice-squad quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson filling in where Garoppolo normally would have.

The Patriots had a stocked depth chart with Brady, Garoppolo and Ryan Mallett at the end of the preseason, but traded Mallett to the Texans on Sunday for a conditional late-round draft choice.
