FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Patriots owner Robert Kraft welcomed cornerback Devin McCourty to New England this morning as part of the traditional jersey presentation for the team’s top draft choice.

Robert Kraft is happy to have first-round pick Devin McCourty aboard for his physical style and production as a tackler.

Speaking on a stage at Gillette Stadium’s 50-yard line, Kraft said he feels the Patriots have had a great draft to this point, highlighted by “a lot of physical players, which is something that we like.”

Kraft noted McCourty’s physical style and his production as a tackler. After his remarks, Kraft and his son Jonathan posed for a picture with McCourty, with McCourty holding up the standard No. 1 jersey for the top pick.

McCourty, wearing a gray pinstriped suit and white Patriots cap, then answered questions from media members.

“This is my first time here, and I’m just still blown away by being here,” he said. “Just now coming out of the locker room and walking on the field, realizing this is where I’ll be able to come out and play football on Sundays is amazing.”

Asked the importance of striking a contract agreement so he can participate in a full training camp, McCourty said, “I think it’s very urgent. I’m not used to being a guy that is not practicing. I told my agents that I want to be able to play and get with the team and get going as soon as possible. The first day of camp I want to be here playing.”
