Defensive snapshot in preseason opener

When looking at playing time in the preseason, it's just as important when a defender is playing as to how much. As for the playing time of Patriots defenders in the preseason opener, one of the things to watch for is any younger players getting extended time early in the game.

Inside linebackers Brandon Spikes and Dane Fletcher were two of the big names to jump off the page. Spikes started (31 first-half snaps; 5 second-half snaps), while Fletcher came on in the fourth series and played the rest of the way (11 first-half snaps; 25 second-half snaps):
