Belichick: Maroney will help club
By Mike Reiss
Running back Laurence Maroney has not played in the Patriots' past two preseason games, but it doesn't appear to be a situation in which his roster spot is in jeopardy.
On a conference call early this evening, coach Bill Belichick repeated what he said after the game -- that the lack of overall snaps on offense was the primary reason Maroney did not play against the Rams. The Patriots have been rotating their running backs this preseason to give each of them a chance to develop a rhythm.
Asked if he's seen enough of Maroney in practice to say that Maroney will help the team this regular season, Belichick said, "Absolutely."
