Tomlin talks Wilfork, Pats TEs, Taylor

By Steven Krasner

Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin talked to the New England media Wednesday. Here are a few notes from his chat:

* On whether it matters to the Steelers whether the Patriots line up Vince Wilfork on the nose or on the end on the defensive line:

“This guy is a force no matter where he lines up. We have to prepare to stop him wherever they line him up.”

* On the Patriots’ offensive philosophy, which features increased use of tight ends in the passing game, especially with the addition of rookies Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez.

“I don’t know if it’s a philosophy. They just have guys capable of playing. It’s like when they had [Daniel] Graham and [Ben] Watson. They’ve got good players and they put them on the field. And [Alge] Crumpler is a good a blocking tight end as there is. They have some good tight ends and they utilize them.”

* On whether stopping Fred Taylor is a concern of the Steelers, if his health allows him to get on the field:

“We have to be prepared to stop whoever they choose to play. We understand he’s capable of playing, but they have other options. I’ve been impressed with [Danny] Woodhead on film as well as the other guys they have.”
