CB Jackson waived to make room
By Mike Reiss
To make room for practice-squad cornerback Tony Carter on the 53-man roster, the Patriots have waived cornerback Chevis Jackson. Jackson, a third-year veteran, had signed a two-year contract with the Patriots on Dec. 10.
This looks like a case where the Patriots are anticipating a need at cornerback on game-day and don't feel Jackson is ready to contribute after just four practices with the team.
So they turn to Carter, who has been on the practice squad all season and thus has been part of the team's system and is viewed as more ready to contribute right away.
It wouldn't be a surprise to see Jackson return at some point should he clear waivers as this looks like a move the team wouldn't have made if not for some injury questions at cornerback with Devin McCourty (rib), Kyle Arrington (elbow) and Darius Butler (thigh).
