Welker & persistence go hand in hand
By Mike Reiss
Jackie MacMullan writes on Patriots receiver Wes Welker in a piece now posted on ESPNBoston.com, detailing Welker's persistence over his entire football career, his recovery from torn knee ligaments in January of 2010, as well as some never-been-told stories.
At the end of the piece, MacMullan notes that Welker is still seeking his first Super Bowl ring.
"It's the final challenge that would mean everything," she writes. "If not for an improbable David Tyree catch and Asante Samuel drop, he'd have one already. Welker tied a Super Bowl record with 11 receptions for 109 yards against the Giants in Super Bowl XLII, but those stats mean nothing."
Says Welker: "I don't think of that game too often, but when I do, it's just a reminder that we've got to do everything we can to take advantage if we get in that situation again."
