Picked-up Pats pieces from Combine

By Mike Reiss & Mike Rodak

INDIANAPOLIS -- Some picked-up pieces, some with a Patriots twist, from Day 2 of the NFL Combine:

Free agent talks on hold. One of the big meetings today at the Combine is with all player agents. It was a crowded scene outside the meeting room, with reporters standing around and looking to make connections with agents they've spoken with on the phone over the course of the year. From a Patriots standpoint, my interest was with agents of New England players who are free agents. Their response was the same: There is a wait until the collective bargaining agreement is resolved before talks possibly commence. Then there are more procedural issues, such as with a player like cornerback Kyle Arrington, who should be receiving an exclusive rights offer in the coming days.

Dimitroff's Patriots days remain a hot topic. It's been three years since Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff left his post as Patriots director of college scouting to head to Atlanta. Still, his Patriots days remain a hot topic. Dimitroff was asked several questions with Patriots ties during his news conference. That gave him the chance to laud current Patriots director of player personnel Nick Caserio.

Pass rush help early in draft. One of the Patriots' top needs is the pass rush, so it was notable when Rams personnel chief Billy Devaney kicked things off this morning by telling reports that this is a deep draft for pass rushers. Devaney thinks good pass rushers will be available into the second round, regardless of whether a team runs a 4-3 or 3-4 defense.
