At 6-foot-5 and 346 pounds, Ellis is one of the bigger players in the draft. He has played 44 games, with 28 starts, beginning his career at South Carolina.
ESPN's Scouts Inc. notes that Ellis has "prototypical height and weight", and plays with power, but teams will have to be comfortable with off-field issues.
"There are concerns about mental toughness that stem from problems at South Carolina and inability to keep weight down in the past," ESPN Scouts Inc. writes in a scouting report (Insider content). "South Carolina suspended Ellis for the first 3 games of the 2008 season for violating team policy. South Carolina dismissed Ellis from the team the following spring."
Scouts Inc., rates Ellis as the 13th defensive lineman in the draft and the 115th overall player.
