Mock thoughts: Castonzo & Ingram
By Mike Reiss
Todd McShay of ESPN's Scouts Inc. produces his sixth mock draft (Insider content) and the first round has an offensive flavor for the Patriots.
At No. 17, McShay envisions a scenario in which the Patriots select Boston College offensive tackle Anthony Castonzo. At No. 28, it's Alabama running back Mark Ingram.
One of the neat parts about McShay's mock is that it presents three different scenarios at each pick.
ANALYSIS: Assuming the Patriots make both first-round picks, which McShay notes might not happen, this sets the Patriots up to address some areas on defense in ensuing rounds. One danger of this scenario for the Patriots is seeing an impact defensive player get away from them, and from this perspective, it's going to be tough to call the team's draft a success if it doesn't address the need for a better pass rush. If the team can combine some pass-rush help with these two first-round picks on offense, it looks like a strong draft for them.
