Poll: Mankins' future with Patriots
By Mike Reiss
What are your thoughts on left guard Logan Mankins?
Mankins, the team's best offensive lineman, has been at the heart of one of the remaining issues between owners and players -- the settlement of an antitrust suit.
When it comes to Mankins' football future, there are a few main options: 1) He plays with the Patriots in 2011 under the franchise tag; 2) He does not sign his franchise tag; 3) He signs a contract extension.
If Mankins does not return to the Patriots, it creates a large void on the offensive line.
With the Patriots looking to replace starting right guard Stephen Neal (retired), likely with Dan Connolly, not having Mankins would further turn over the guard position. Such a scenario would thrust players such as Ryan Wendell, Rich Ohrnberger, Marcus Cannon and Thomas Austin further into the spotlight. It would also likely lead the Patriots to consider signing a veteran on the free-agent market.
