Gerard Warren re-signs with Pats
By Mike Reiss
Veteran defensive lineman Gerard Warren has been re-signed by the Patriots, coach Bill Belichick announced at the start of his news conference.
"It's something we planned on for a while. We delayed it here for a few days. We felt it was the right timing [now]. It's something with agreed to do earlier, and today happened to be the day for it," he said. "He did a lot of good things for us last year, a veteran player that I thought handled himself very well on the team."
Warren spent the 2010 season with the Patriots, elevating into a starting role at left end when veteran Ty Warren was lost for the season in August with a hip injury. He was essentially a two-down player, coming off the field in passing situations. He played in all 16 games and was credited by coaches with 36 tackles while adding 3.5 sacks.
The Patriots have added four defensive linemen to the team since last Friday, and Belichick said this as big a group, numbers-wise, as he's had. The club is now at the 90-man roster limit.
