Report: Patriots to work out WR Clayton

By Mike Rodak

The Patriots will work out veteran wide receiver Mark Clayton on Friday, according to Aaron Wilson of Scout.com.

A first-round pick of the Ravens in 2005, Clayton was a steady contributor in Baltimore but never emerged as a top receiving threat. His best season statistically came in 2006, when he caught 67 passes for 939 yards.

Clayton had some early success for the Rams last season, making 23 receptions in five games before suffering a torn patella tendon in his right knee and missing the rest of the season.

With Wes Welker, Deion Branch, and Chad Ochincinco at the top of their depth chart, the Patriots would appear to be set at the position. However, Clayton is the second veteran receiver to visit Foxboro this week; T.J. Houshmandzadeh worked out for the team on Monday.
