Offensive tackle Steve Maneri, who spent the 2010 season on the Patriots' practice squad and was waived on Sunday, has been claimed by the Chiefs and awarded to them today, according to a source.
Maneri is the sixth player waived by the Patriots since Saturday's 53-man roster cutdown to be claimed and awarded to another team. That is easily an NFL high.
The Patriots had initially claimed Maneri on waivers at this time last year, and kept him on their 53-man roster for a few weeks before moving him to the practice squad. He had progressed nicely, playing the entire preseason opener and holding his own.
But with Matt Light, Sebastian Vollmer and first-round pick Nate Solder atop the depth chart at tackle, and needing to add interior line help, Maneri was the odd man out.
