Vollmer (back) does not practice again
By Mike Rodak
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- The Patriots held their fourth practice of the week on Friday afternoon, and offensive tackle Sebastian Vollmer was the only player not spotted for the third straight session.
The third-year starter is dealing with a back injury, and his absence from practice this week makes it highly unlikely he will be able to play in Monday night's regular season opener. In his place, rookie Nate Solder would get the nod at right tackle.
Meanwhile, rookie running backs Shane Vereen and Stevan Ridley, as well as defensive end Jermaine Cunningham were among the seven players who did not practice Monday, but have practiced the last three days of this week. This is a positive sign for these players' availability on Monday night.
The Patriots will release their second injury report of the week at 4 p.m., and will hold their final practice of the week on Saturday.
