Gronk on bye: 'I'm just chilling'

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- While many of his teammates were planning on dispersing across the country after Wednesday's practice session, Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski had simpler plans for the five offdays that await during the bye week.

"I'm just chilling," the easy-going Gronkowski said with a big smile. "I'm going to work out, get my body right. I've definitely got some bruises, some dings and stuff. If you're going to get stronger, you have to get back in the weight room, try to get some lifting, some weights. Get the body right, that’s my plan."

Through six games, Gronkowski has hauled in 29 passes for 401 yards and five touchdowns. He's well on his way to exceeding his rookie production (42 catches, 546 yards, 10 TD), but admitted the X's and O's of the football grind will hop on the back burner this weekend.

Asked how much he'll think about football the next five days, Gronkowski kicked into a sarcastic tone before suggesting, "The whole time -- I'm thinking about all my plays, all the time. What I'm going to do my next route." Turning serious he noted he'd probably watch some of the Steelers vs. Cardinals to prep for next week's trip to Pittsburgh, but added: "No, you definitely take your mind off football a little bit. Go do something, enjoy yourself -- go and relax. Have a good time and see some family, some friends. You'll think about football a little bit, but the majority of the time it's just relaxing."

Gronkowski said coach Bill Belichick's message to the team in advance of the bye week was simple.

"Basically, he talked to the team as a whole and told us to, 'Go enjoy our time off, but get your body right,'" explained Gronkowski. "If you’re hurt, get in the weight room a little bit. Get stronger, fix your body up, and make sure you’re ready when you come back."
