CB Malcolm Williams released
By Mike Rodak
The Patriots released cornerback Malcolm Williams on Thursday, opening a spot on the 53-man roster.
Williams, a 2011 seventh-round draft pick, was elevated to the 53-man roster on Saturday and played in Sunday's game in Washington on special teams (kickoff coverage, punt return, kickoff return).
It he clears waivers, Williams could return to the team's practice squad. Cornerback/safety Sterling Moore and safety Ross Ventrone are already on the practice squad, and could be candidates for promotion to the 53-man roster.
