Report: Patriots to add DB Fuller
By Mike Reiss
The Patriots plan to sign veteran safety Vincent Fuller today, the Boston Globe reports.
Fuller (6-1, 192) has played for the Titans (2005-2010) and was with the Lions for one game this season before being placed on injured reserve (elbow). The Lions released him Dec. 7, and by doing so, it cleared the way for Fuller to join another team and contribute this season if healthy.
Fuller has a background with Patriots senior football adviser Floyd Reese, who was general manager of the Titans when Fuller was selected in the fourth round of the 2005 draft.
The Patriots have been mixing and matching at safety over the last six games without Patrick Chung, and Sunday's win over the Broncos highlighted the volatility at the position as Matthew Slater started, struggled, and then was replaced on the second series by Sergio Brown. The Patriots also had veteran Nate Jones, another midseason signing, into the mix.
James Ihedigbo, a five-year veteran, has been the one constant in the time Chung has been out.
