@not20anymore -- "Re-signing special teamers is great and useful but not sexy. Are they going to make any big moves like an offer sheet for Mike Wallace?"
I understand some of the disappointment, as there is a build-up to the start of free agency that comes with the hope that teams will spend big and aggressively pursue top available players.
At the same time, I think it's important to keep some perspective here. This is a long process and we're not even 24 hours into it. The Patriots are far from alone in taking more of a wait-and-see approach; respected franchises such as the Packers, Steelers, Ravens and Giants weren't on the free-agent frontlines Tuesday either.
Furthermore, last year's "big splashes" of Chad Ochocinco and Albert Haynesworth remind us that big names don't guarantee big results.
Looking ahead, I'd expect the Patriots to add some complementary pieces -- similar to last year with Mark Anderson, Andre Carter, Brian Waters and James Ihedigbo -- as this process unfolds.
The Patriots aren't always right, but their track record is pretty good.
