McShay's 2-round draft projection

By Mike Reiss

Todd McShay of ESPN's Scouts Inc., produces his mock draft 4.0, and this version has the first two rounds accounted.

Since the Patriots have four picks in the top 62, it's a chance to get to know four possibilities for New England, while also highlighting some of the needs of other clubs.

McShay envisions a scenario where the following prospects fit for the Patriots:

27. DE/OLB Chandler Jones (Syracuse)
31. DL Kendall Reyes (UConn)
48. C Peter Konz (Wisconsin)
62. S Brandon Taylor (LSU)

"Jones is one of the most underrated prospects in the entire 2012 class and just the kind of versatile defender Bill Belichick likes," McShay writes. "He is long and athletic and can play end in an odd or even front, maybe even some outside linebacker in 3-4 looks."

ANALYSIS: McShay hits on some of the areas that could use a boost. Jones seems to have the intangibles and physical traits the Patriots seek, while Reyes could add a young up-and-comer to a line that Bill Belichick is hoping to replenish this offseason. Konz, the top-rated center, looks like a good value slipping to the middle of the second round. Taylor, the safety from LSU, had a private workout with the club earlier this month. The team will privately work out many players, so it's dangerous to look too much into that, although it shows the Patriots are still gathering information on him.
