Ingram to Sirius: En route to Pats

By Mike Reiss

South Carolina defensive end Melvin Ingram had just finished up a pre-draft visit with the Jets on Tuesday when he was a guest on SiriusXM NFL Radio's "Movin' the Chains" program.

"Where are you headed?" co-hosts Andrew Bogusch and Randy Cross asked.

"To Boston to meet with the Patriots," Ingram replied.

Ingram, who measured 6-foot-1 and 264 pounds, is viewed as one of the best pass-rushers in the draft. One question that comes with Ingram is which scheme he fits best -- 4-3 end or 3-4 outside linebacker.

That topic came up during the Sirius interview.

"I feel like I can excel at any of those positions, because I feel like I'm going to work that much harder to be a dominant player. There is really not one position I feel like I'm more comfortable," he said.

Ingram added that he feels like a natural when it comes to coverage skills, in part because of his background as a middle linebacker prior to his time at South Carolina.

"I used to have to drop and cover, so covering comes second-nature to me. This offseason, getting prepared for the draft, I've been working on it a lot," he said.

Ingram is unlikely to be available at the 27th overall pick, which is the top pick the Patriots currently own, so if he's on the radar it would probably have to be as part of a trade up.
