Observations from today's OTA

By Mike Rodak

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- The Patriots held their second of three organized team activities open to reporters on Thursday. For the second week in a row, players were not in jerseys, but rather blue (offense) and gray (defense) shirts.

Rookie safety Nate Ebner, who did not practice last week, donned a helmet on Thursday and took part in the entirety of practice. At one point, Ebner stood with safeties coach Brian Flores and later shadowed the safeties during 7-on-7 drills. The sixth-round pick was also a member of the top kickoff return unit.

Running back Joseph Addai, who practiced fully last week and appeared to be ready with his helmet to practice on Thursday, instead spent part of the practice working with the team’s trainers wearing a resistance harness. He did not participate in drills.

Meanwhile, 11 players remained out of action: tight ends Rob Gronkowski (ankle) and Daniel Fells; offensive linemen Logan Mankins (knee), Brian Waters, Sebastian Vollmer and Marcus Zusevics (pectoral); wide receivers Matthew Slater and Jeremy Ebert; defensive lineman Myron Pryor; and linebackers Brandon Spikes and Tracy White. Players working with trainers on the sidelines were Gronkowski, Zusevics, Slater, Spikes, and White. Ebert remains out until his graduation at Northwestern.

More from OTAs to come.
