Seahawks connections to New England
By Field Yates
Passing along some of the connections between the Patriots/New England area and current members of the Seattle Seahawks organization.
HEAD COACH PETE CARROLL Carroll manned the head coaching post for the Patriots for three seasons from 1997-1999, guiding the team to a division title in 1997 and a playoff berth in 1998. Carroll, who took over after Bill Parcells resigned, was fired after the 1999 season, and later landed back on his feet at USC as its head coach. He re-entered the ranks of the NFL in 2010 in his current position with the Seahawks.
QUARTERBACKS COACH CARL SMITH Smith joined Carroll in New England as a member of his staff, serving in both a quarterbacks coach and tight ends coach position. The longtime NFL assistant also spent one season with Carroll at USC, before reuniting in Seattle.
KICKER STEVE HAUSCHKA A native of Needham, MA and a graduate of New England area college Middlebury College (he also played one season as a graduate student at North Carolina State), Hauschka has found a home in Seattle after being claimed off waivers by the team last season. The 27-year old has made all but one of his 11 field goal attempts this season.
OFFENSIVE LINEMAN BRENO GIACOMINI The Seahawks' starting right tackle, Giacomini is a graduate of Malden High school. He starred there before playing collegiately at the University of Louisville, and was a fifth-round draft choice of the Packers in 2010. He was signed off the Packers' practice squad to Seattle's active roster in September of 2010.
