Projecting the Patriots' inactives
By Field Yates
Projecting the Patriots' Week 6 inactives for their game against the Seattle Seahawks:
Safety Steve Gregory Reason: Health
Quick-hit: Gregory remained absent from practice this week after injuring his hip late in the Patriots' Week 4 win over the Bills. He was declared out by the team following Friday's practice.
Linebacker Tracy White Reason: Health
Quick-hit: Like Gregory, White was absent from practice this week with a foot injury. He is out for Week 6, according to the team.
Linebacker Dont'a Hightower Reason: Health
Quick-hit: Hightower is among 14 Patriots to be listed as questionable for Week 6, and has been limited throughout the week of practice with a hamstring issue. If he is unable to play, look for veteran Bobby Carpenter to earn the start in his place.
Wide receiver Julian Edelman Reason: Health
Quick-hit: Despite returning to practice on a limited basis this Thursday, Edelman doesn't appear to be 100 percent yet, as he wore a brace around his left hand, which was injured in Week 3. He could follow a comparable path to Aaron Hernandez, who practiced on a limited basis last week on Thursday and Friday, and then was on the practice field (again on a limited basis) this Wednesday.
Defensive lineman Justin Francis Reason: Depth
Quick-hit: Despite being active in Week 5, Francis was again limited throughout the week of practice prior to Week 6. He is an intriguing prospect, but may still be in the developmental stages. The fact that he's dealing with an ankle injury doesn't help his cause either.
Defensive end Jake Bequette Reason: Depth/development
Quick-hit: Bequette made his NFL debut in Week 4, but returned to the inactive list in Week 5. It seems that, barring depth issues along the defensive line, Bequette will continue to use 2012 as a developmental year.
Offensive lineman Matt Tennant Reason: Depth
Quick-hit: Though the Patriots have listed both Logan Mankins and Sebastian Vollmer as questionable, it seems plausible that both will play and start on Sunday. That would decrease the need to dress a lineman such as Tennant, who would probably be the fourth reserve. That's probably superfluous, given the need to maintain depth elsewhere.
