Welker, Spikes & more from locker room
By Mike Reiss
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Thursday marks the Patriots' lone work day of the bye week, and media members had access to the locker room from 8:15- 9 a.m.
A few observations:
1. Receiver Wes Welker walked through the locker room en route to the weight room, and the fourth-quarter ankle injury that sidelined him against the Rams doesn't seem to be a major issue. He looked to be OK.
2. Linebacker Brandon Spikes was among a group of players to speak with reporters, including rookie safety Tavon Wilson, running back Stevan Ridley and outside linebacker/defensive end Rob Ninkovich, among others. Some followers had questions about Spikes' health after he came off late in the fourth quarter, but it doesn't seem to be a major issue.
3. The locker for defensive back Sterling Moore remains intact. That could be an indication that if Moore clears waivers today (4 p.m. ET deadline), he could return to the practice squad.
4. Colleague Mike Rodak picked up on a new locker put together for a player wearing jersey No. 16. It could be a practice squad receiver. No official announcement from the team at this point. Also, veteran defensive back Derrick Martin will wear No. 26 and linebacker Mike Rivera will wear No. 59.
EXTRA POINT: Position coaches were available to reporters in the visitors' locker room, while quarterback Tom Brady also answered questions. Updates to come.
