Ninkovich builds on breakout vs. Bills

By Field Yates

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- The last time the New England Patriots took on the Buffalo Bills, defensive end Rob Ninkovich had his 2012 breakout performance, recording seven tackles, a sack and a forced fumble, the first of four he would cause in as many games.

On Friday, the veteran defensive end talked about what clicked in Buffalo that day, highlighting a developing comfort level at his position.

"I think it was just getting comfortable with my position, and knowing that these are my responsibilities and just doing them to the best that I can for my position and doing my job," he said. "Just kind of looking over the tape and seeing the things that -- maybe I wasn't as aggressive or just taking a shot on a certain play that I was able to do early in the season versus Buffalo. I kind of just looked at the first three games and looked at some things there."

He noted a more determined mentality on the field.

"I was just able to put my hand down and just go," Ninkovich said. "Get to the ball carrier, and wherever the ball is, my job is to get there. Just having that never-stop, high-motor mentality."

And while Ninkovich is hopeful for a similar end result against Buffalo this time around, he is not looking for a repeat start to the game, as New England quickly found itself down 21-7 in the second quarter against the Bills in Week 4.

He talked about how to prepare to start fast.

"You try and build on the momentum we had from our last game," he continued. "Starting and playing all four quarters strong and not kind of having that lag in performance in the first quarter there."
