Mayo, McCourty deflect 'punk' talk
By Mike Reiss
On conference calls today, Patriots captains Jerod Mayo and Devin McCourty were asked their opinion of postgame comments made by Bills quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick about Patriots linebacker Brandon Spikes.
Fitzpatrick said Spikes acts like a "punk at times."
Mayo said he was unaware of the remarks, and when told of them, he wasn't interested in engaging the topic.
"To be honest with you, we played these guys twice this year, and we're kind of putting them in the rear-view mirror now," he said. "Our focus is on the Colts. Everyone has their own opinion about each and every player in the league."
McCourty echoed similar remarks.
"I don't have much on that," he said. "I like to think of it as 'everyone has their own opinions.' That's on him, I think. The biggest thing for us is that's a division opponent, we play them twice a year each year, and for this season, we don't have to worry about playing them again. I think we have to move forward. Every player and every person is entitled to their own opinion."
