Source: Branch clears waivers
By Field Yates
Veteran receiver Deion Branch has cleared waivers and is now a free agent, according to a league source.
The Patriots waived Branch on Saturday a few days after he was added to the injury report (hamstring). With top receivers Brandon Lloyd (knee) and Wes Welker (ankle) also on the injury report, the Patriots needed more depth at receiver and promoted Greg Salas from the practice squad after waiving Branch.
Branch is now a free agent.
Also, the Patriots signed receiver Kamar Aiken to their practice squad Monday. Aiken (6-2, 213), of Central Florida, originally entered the NFL in 2011 as a rookie free agent with the Bills. He spent most of last season on the Bills' practice squad before he was promoted to the active roster, appearing in two regular-season games. He's been on practice squads with the Bills and Bears in 2012.
