Texans-Bengals through Pats lens
By Mike Reiss
The AFC wild-card round of the playoffs kicks off at 4:30 p.m. ET on Saturday when the Texans host the Bengals. If the Texans win, they will visit the Patriots on Sunday, Jan. 13 at 4:30 p.m. ET.
Former Patriots in the game include:
BenJarvus Green-Ellis -- First-year Bengals running back finished with 1,094 rushing yards on 278 carries this season (3.9 avg.), scoring six touchdowns. Green-Ellis showed he could break off the big gain this year with a career-long of 48 yards, although after not fumbling in four seasons with the Patriots, he had three fumbles this season (losing two).
Brandon Tate -- A third-round draft choice of the Patriots in 2009, the receiver has been with the Bengals for two seasons, and totaled 13 receptions for 211 yards and 1 touchdown this year. He returns punts and kickoffs for the Bengals.
Shayne Graham -- Texans kicker was with the Patriots for half of the 2010 season when Stephen Gostkowski missed the second half of the year with a torn quad. He is 31 of 38 on field-goal attempts this season and 45-of-45 on extra points.
Terrell McClain -- Texans defensive lineman was with the Patriots for one game this season, playing 16 snaps in a Sept. 30 win over the Bills.
Also, former UMass defensive back Jeromy Miles is a third-year player with the Bengals. He played in all 16 games for the Bengals this season, with one start.
For those interested in sharing some thoughts on the game, this is an invitation to do so in the comments section of this blog entry. I will plan to pop in from time to time.
