Schefter: Welker to test free-agent market
By Field Yates
Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker has no intentions of re-signing with the team before testing free agency, league sources told ESPN's NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
Free agency commences next Tuesday, although the NFL has instituted a legal "tampering" period in which pending free agents can discuss (but not finalize) deals with other teams starting this Saturday.
Welker, 31, was the Patriots' franchise tag player in 2012, although the team elected not to re-tag him this offseason.
Since becoming one of the league's top wide receivers, Welker has not been able to test the open market in free agency.
