Offseason power rankings: Pats fifth

By Field Yates

Free agency isn't even a week old and there's still plenty of time for NFL teams to tweak their rosters, but ESPN.com has compiled its first power rankings since the Super Bowl. The view on the Patriots hasn't changed much.

After checking in at No. 4 in the final installment of last season's power rankings, the Patriots open up the new year fifth, second among AFC teams.

The three teams that were ahead of the Patriots in the final edition of last year's rankings -- Atlanta, San Francisco and Denver -- remain in front of the them, but one team, the Seahawks, has also leapfrogged the Patriots. Seattle tops the new list, with San Francisco, Denver and Atlanta following behind.

The Patriots have had a noteworthy offseason, led by the three-year contract extension signed by quarterback Tom Brady and losing wide receiver Wes Welker in free agency. The team has also added receiver Danny Amendola, safety Adrian Wilson and retained cornerbacks Aqib Talib and Kyle Arrington.

Despite winning the Super Bowl last season, the Ravens are ranked ninth, due in large part to losing six starters already this offseason.
