NFL Draft moved to May

By Mike Rodak

Traditionally held in April, the NFL Draft will be moved to May 8-10 in 2014, the league announced Tuesday.

The change was first confirmed at last week's owners meetings in Boston, with the dates at Radio City Music Hall set this week. According to the NFL, the change was made due to a "scheduling conflict" at the venue.

However, the NFL kept two other key dates the same for next offseason: free agency will begin on March 11, while the scouting combine will held February 18-25 in Indianapolis.

Sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter earlier this month that the NFL was considering moving the dates of free agency and the combine, but doing so would require collaboration with the players' union.

According to the league's announcement, moving the draft to May will have "no effect" on when rookies will report to teams, and that there will be no reduction in the number of practice days for teams during their offseason calendar.

The NFL also said no decisions have been made for key offseason dates in 2015 or beyond.
