Report: Moe injured Achilles

By Field Yates

More information regarding the Patriots' decision to waive rookie wide receiver T.J. Moe with the injury designation has surfaced, as a report from Dave Matter of the St. Louis Post indicates that Moe tore his Achilles.

Matter reported that Moe will undergo surgery to repair the injury next week in Columbia, Missouri.

Moe was present and healthy for the Patriots' media-accessible OTA on Wednesday, leading one to believe that the injury may have occurred during Thursday's on-field session, which was closed to the media.

He received the most guaranteed money among the Patriots' undrafted rookie free agents this offseason ($30,000).

After being waived/injured, Moe is subject to the league's waiver wire. If he clears waivers, he will revert to injured reserved and remain with the Patriots. The Patriots had another undrafted free agent, tight end Brad Herman, suffer the same fate last offseason with a ruptured Achilles.

Though it is uncommon for another team to claim a player on waivers with the injury designation, it does happen on occasion. The Patriots claimed tight end Jake Ballard off of waivers after he was waived/injured by the Giants last offseason.
