OT Fisher, WR Tuinei waived
By Mike Reiss
In a pair of back-end roster moves, the Patriots announced that rookie offensive tackle Elvis Fisher and first-year receiver Lavasier Tuinei were waived on Saturday. The official designation the Patriots used with both players was waived/injurred.
Both were longshots to stick long-term, and the moves appear to be part of managing the roster with injured players in mind while preparing to play the preseason opener Aug. 9 in Philadelphia.
Both Fisher and Tuinei were not participants in practice Saturday. Tuinei had been signed by the team on Thursday.
The 24-year-old Fisher, who played at Missouri, was signed by the Patriots after going undrafted in April. His deal included a $7,500 signing bonus and a base salary that included $7,500 in guarantees. The $15,000 in guaranteed money was third highest among the undrafted players the Patriots signed.
