Pats practice before heading to Philly

By Field Yates

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Before heading to Philadelphia for a week with the Eagles ahead of the preseason opener, the Patriots conducted a brief morning practice on the fields outside of Gillette Stadium.

It was a low-intensity workout conducted in helmets and shells. Four players -- defensive end Jermaine Cunningham, cornerback Ras-I Dowling, defensive lineman Armond Armstead (on the NFI list) and offensive lineman Marcus Cannon -- were not spotted on the field.

Receivers Michael Jenkins and Mark Harrison, as well as offensive lineman Kevin Haslam, wore their practice jerseys, but were not participants in the practice.

After donning a blue defensive jersey during Saturday's scrimmage-type practice, defensive back Devin McCourty once again wore a red non-contact jersey on Monday.

The focus of the practice was primarily on special situations, some of which could come up when the team takes the field for the first time in game action this Friday night.

The Patriots will practice with the Eagles for the first of three sessions on Tuesday afternoon. ESPNBoston.com will have coverage from Philadelphia.
