Penalty watch: Corrente gets the call

The weekly penalty watch sets up Sunday's AFC Championship Game between the New England Patriots and host Denver Broncos:

Patriots' total accepted penaltiesin regular season: 69 (second fewest in NFL)
NFL team with fewest accepted penalties: Colts (66), Patriots (69), Dolphins (70), Vikings (70), Panthers (80), Steelers (80).
NFL team with most accepted penalties: Seahawks (128), Rams (123), Buccaneers (121), Broncos (117), Raiders (116), Ravens (112), Texans (112).
Most frequent Patriots penalty: Offensive holding (17), false start (12), defensive pass interference (8), defensive holding (6), special teams block above the waist (6), illegal shift (5).
Key stat: The Patriots had three illegal block in the back penalties on special teams in their divisional round playoff win.
Most penalized Patriots: CB Aqib Talib (8), G Logan Mankins (7), G Marcus Cannon (6), C Ryan Wendell (5).

Summary: The Patriots and Broncos are at opposite ends of the penalty spectrum. ... Referee Tony Corrente has been assigned the AFC title game. His crew worked two Patriots games this season -- Oct. 13 against the Saints and Dec. 15 against the Dolphins. This is an all-star crew that he is working with, as only one of the other officials is from his crew, back judge Greg Wilson.
