Comparing & contrasting draft experts

By Mike Reiss

Later today, NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock will hold a conference call, and the plan will be to pass along some of his insight on this year's draft. That's similar to what we did last week with ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper and Todd McShay.

In advance of Mayock's call, he's released his top-5 prospect list at each position. Here are some notes as to how his top-5 differs from Kiper's (listed with the Patriots' need level in mind):

Tight end
Both have the same five players, with the notable difference with the ranking of Washington's Austin Seferian-Jenkins (Mayock 2nd, Kiper 4th).

Defensive tackle
A position with a different top-ranked player, with Mayock putting Notre Dame's Louis Nix III at No. 1 followed by Florida State's Timmy Jernigan. Kiper goes with Jernigan at No. 1 and Nix at No. 2.

Defensive end
A notable absence on Mayock's list -- Notre Dame's Stephon Tuitt. He is ranked third by Kiper.

Center
One big difference -- Kiper lists North Carolina's Russell Bodine at No. 3  while Mayock doesn't have him in the top five. Both have the same top-2 -- USC's Marcus Martin and Colorado State's Weston Richburg.

Guard
A different player at the top, with Kiper listing Mississippi State's Gabe Jackson at No. 1 and Mayock putting him at No. 3.

Safety
Florida State's Lamarcus Joyner is listed as the third safety by Mayock, but Kiper groups him with the cornerbacks as the third-ranked player (slot).

Quarterback
Each have the same top five, with Teddy Bridgewater at No. 1, but Mayock puts Johnny Manziel second and Blake Bortles third. Kiper goes Bortles, then Manziel.

Running back
Boston College's Andre Williams winds up at No. 4 on Mayock's list and No. 10 on Kiper's.
