A feel for the 130th draft pick

By Mike Reiss

The Patriots have the following draft picks in 2014:

1. 29th overall
2. 62nd overall
3. 93rd overall
4a. 130th overall
4b. 140th overall (compensatory, can't be traded)
6a. 198th overall (from Eagles)
6b. 206th overall
7. 244th overall

Highlighting some of the recent players picked in the 130th spot:

2013: FB Kyle Juszczyk (Ravens)
2012: S Christian Thompson (Ravens)
2011: RB Jamie Harper (Titans)
2010: LB O'Brien Schofield (Cardinals)
2009: LB Gerald McRath (Titans)
2008: OT Tony Hills (Steelers)
2007: G Josh Beekman (Bears)
2006:  WR Domenik Hixon (Broncos)
2005: RB Darren Sproles (Chargers)
2004: LB Brandon Chillar (Rams)
2003: T Lance Nimmo (Buccaneers)
2002: G Travis Scott (Rams)
ANALYSIS: If the Patriots could duplicate the 2005 selection of Darren Sproles, they'd naturally be thrilled. He's the choice that stands out most from this group and is obviously the exception more than the norm. This could be the spot where the Patriots could look for a running back in this year's draft, as it's considered a deep class and there could be good value at this point. O'Brien Schofield, now with the Seahawks, has 11.5 career sacks. Last year's pick, Kyle Juszczyk, contributed on special teams. Domenik Hixon later emerged a bit with the Giants.
