Picked-up pieces around the Web

By Mike Reiss

A few picked-up Patriots pieces from around the Web:

1. “What’s the big deal?” CBSSports.com NFL Insider Pat Kirwan writes an around-the-league column and it includes a few Patriots nuggets, such as “What’s the big deal?” about second-round quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo as it relates to Tom Brady. He also sees an “awesome fit” for the Patriots in a trade scenario.

2. Trade candidates. Speaking of trades, Chris Wesseling of NFL.com lists 10 players he believes are solid summertime trade candidates around the NFL, and lists teams with which he thinks they’d be a good fit. Quarterback Ryan Mallett lands at No. 2 on the list, defensive ends Brandon Graham and Derrick Morgan and tight end Rob Housler are viewed as players who could help New England.

3. Collins has breakout potential. In putting together a list of five “breakout” performers for 2014, Brent Solbleski of USAToday.com has Patriots linebacker Jamie Collins in the second spot.

4. Patriots a sound investment. Business Insider’s list of the 34 best franchise investments over the last decade includes the Patriots. Business Insider estimates a $1.04 billion increase in value over that time.
