The New England Patriots hosted four players for tryouts Tuesday, according to a league source: wide receivers Jordan Shipley, LaQuan Williams and Devon Wylie, as well as tight end Brandon Barden.

Shipley is the most experienced of the wide receivers, as he was taken in the third round of the 2010 draft by the Bengals out of Texas. The 27-year-old has 79 career catches for 858 yards and four touchdowns. His most recent NFL stop was in Jacksonville, where he spent part of the 2012 season before he was released this year at the conclusion of the preseason.

Wylie was a fourth-round pick last year by the Chiefs, who hoped he would develop into a productive kick returner and slot presence. His role in Kansas City never fully developed, however, and he was waived at the end of training camp. He has since spent time on the Cardinals' practice squad.

Williams, originally an undrafted free agent out of Maryland, spent 2011 and 2012 with the Ravens before he was waived at the end of training camp this season. He played primarily on special teams in Baltimore, serving as both a kickoff returner and core special-teams coverage player.

Barden, a Vanderbilt product, spent the 2012 season with the Titans, primarily on the practice squad. The 6-foot-4, 251-pounder is athletic enough to be a "move" tight end, who often is aligned as a receiver or even a fullback.
