FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- The New England Patriots signed defensive back Malcolm Williams to their practice squad Tuesday, releasing defensive back Josh Victorian.

The Patriots drafted Williams in the seventh round (219th overall) of this year's draft, but he was released in late August. Williams appeared to injure his leg during the preseason. He contribute one special teams tackle during the exhibiton slate.

Victorian spent training camp with the Baltimore Ravens after being signed as an undrafted free agent out of Louisiana Tech. He originally signed with the Patriots practice squad on Sept. 22, then released on Oct. 5 when the team inked Sterling Moore. Victorian returned to the practice squad two days later.

Tarpinian signed off practice squad

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- The Patriots added linebacker Jeff Tarpinian to their 53-man roster Thursday, releasing linebacker A.J. Edds. With the vacant practice squad spot, the team also inked rookie cornerback Josh Victorian.

The Patriots signed Tarpinian this summer as a rookie free agent out of Iowa. He survived the cutdown to 53 players, but was released on Sept. 12 when the team elevated Thomas Welch from the practice squad to add depth at offensive lineman before the season-opener in Miami. Tarpinian landed with the Patriots' practice squad two days later. Due to injuries, Tarpinian could add special teams versatility.

The Patriots claimed Edds off waivers from the Miami Dolphins earlier this month. The former fourth-round pick of the Dolphins appeared at linebacker for 10 snaps in Sunday's win over the Chargers, while also serving a limited role on special teams.
