FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- The New England Patriots will honor the memory of Myra Kraft by distributing 70,000 pins bearing her initials -- MHK -- to fans during the home-opener against the San Diego Chargers Sunday at Gillette Stadium.

Here's more from the Patriots:
The Kraft family and the New England Patriots suffered a great loss over the summer when cancer claimed the life of their matriarch, Myra Kraft, Robert Kraft's wife of 48 years. When the Patriots host the San Diego Chargers in the 2011 regular season home opener at Gillette Stadium this Sunday, Myra’s absence will be felt, but her presence will still be profound. Prior to the game, more than 70,000 lapel pins with Myra’s initials “MHK” will be distributed to fans as they enter the stadium, giving fans an opportunity to join Patriots players and staff in honoring her memory. Last month, the team dedicated the 2011 season to Myra and committed to wearing an “MHK” patch on the chest of every player and on the sleeve of every coach for every game this season. Prior to the game, players, coaches and fans alike will also observe a moment of silence in memory of Myra.

Earlier today, it was noted that the Patriots will wear a patch on their uniforms to honor the memory of Myra Kraft. The patch is part of the team's plans to dedicate the entire 2011 season in her memory.

Every Patriots player and coach will wear a patch with the initials "MHK" on it in recognition of her lifelong contributions to the local and global community, and her influence on the charitable mission of the entire Patriots organization. The patch will be worn on the left chest of every player throughout the season.

“Myra touched the lives of so many people,” Pro Bowl defensive lineman Vince Wilfork said . “My conversations with her were never about football. She always asked about my family and always made me feel as if I were a part of hers. By her example, she made us all want to give more and to make a positive impact in our communities. We are proud to dedicate the 2011 season to Myra Kraft.”

At halftime of Thursday night’s regional broadcast of the preseason opener, a segment will air featuring Patriots greats – past and present – reflecting on Myra Kraft's memory and the lasting legacy she created.

Also, in honor of her lifetime commitment to philanthropic service, the New England Patriots Charitable Foundation will focus its season-long initiative in 2011 on recognizing and rewarding volunteerism. Included in that focus will be the recognition of the nation’s largest volunteer organization: the United States military. That season-long initiative will formally commence at the regular season home opener on Sept. 18. Prior to that game, the organization will honor Myra with a moment of silence.
