The 22-year-old Iglesias has dazzled in the field this spring and manager Bobby Valentine said he thinks he’s close to being major league ready, but there are questions about his offensive ability. Iglesias hit .200 this spring with the Red Sox, with 5 hits in 25 at bats.
The move means Mike Aviles will be the team’s starting shortstop, with Nick Punto serving as utilityman. Aviles has made just one error at the position this spring and is hitting .333 with seven doubles.
The Red Sox now have 41 players in major league camp.
